Planet Watch -- April 2011

Mercury begins the month at inferior conjunction but then quickly moves out to the west of the Sun and becomes visible before sunrise over the eastern horizon.
Venus rises ahead of the Sun and stays very visible over the southeastern horizon at sunrise this month.
Mars rises earlier each day and gradually pulls away from the Sun becoming more visible over the eastern horizon.
Jupiter rises earlier each day this month and slowly but steadily moves away from the Sun becoming more visible over the eastern horizon before sunrise.
Saturn reaches opposition on the 4th and so will be visible all night. This graphic shows the north side of the rings as they appear this month.
